Online Toxic Communities And Bullies In Esports & Gaming


Streamers and esports players go through very difficult times with the toxicity in the esports communities which leads to mental health issues and unfortunately sometimes even suicides.

Challenging a toxic community is a very complex task to deal with especially when there is bullying involved. It is very easy when others tell you to stay strong but what if you haven’t shared it yet with your friends? Below I’ll be listing some points that I found very helpful through my experience and challenges in life. Although it is not easy to come to my position today, everyone can make it when there’s an effort to it.

Although it’s not always the first priority, depending your relationship with your family and friends but very important if you have a healthy one, seek support from friends, family, or professionals. It’s important to take care of your mental health and well-being, and sometimes that means removing yourself from toxic environments.

Most social media platforms have reporting mechanisms that allow users to report toxic behavior, such as hate speech or harassment. If you see toxic behavior, report it.

Leading by example is one of the first tasks you should work on. Never engage to a toxic community, always keep your replies or messages in the most respectful way.

Many people often tell you to report bullies or someone who is being toxic, but I’m sure the victim will be afraid of reporting as the issue might get worse. Although it is very important to report inappropriate behavior , make sure that you report to the right person in charge. Sometimes, from experience, moderators might be complicit with the aggressors or bullies, so be very cautious before you report.

Create opportunities for positive interactions within your community. Interacting positively with your community even though going through tough times will help counteracting the negative influence of toxic communities, although I must include, through experience, it may increase the toxicity when counteracting the negative influence.

Although it is very challenging to deal with, it takes time and persistence but it is important to work towards creating a safer space within your community to build a strong environment and keeping those positive vibes.

Toxic people online want to get a reaction from others, so it’s important not to feed into their behavior by engaging in their toxicity. Instead, maintain a calm and respectful demeanor.

If you see someone in the toxic internet community who is behaving in a positive way, acknowledge and reinforce that behavior. This can help create a more positive environment and encourage others to follow.

Bullying can be a sign that a person is experiencing a variety of challenges, such as emotional or psychological difficulties, family problems, or social issues. It is important to address these underlying issues and provide support to the individual in need. However, this does not mean that the bully should be given a free pass for their harmful behavior.

While it’s not your responsibility to fix or save anyone, it may be helpful to approach them with empathy and compassion, and encourage them to seek professional help if necessary. It’s important to set boundaries and take care of your own well-being as well, as being around toxic people can be draining and harmful to your mental health.

I have gone through all of the above since I was young and still experience it till today, yet you see me smiling and always putting positive vibes out there.

Remember, a smile doesn’t always mean a person is happy. Sometimes it simply means they are strong enough to face their problems.
